Dufashanye is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving Burundian youth. Our mission is to empower Burundian students to reach their potential by removing societal barriers, supporting their development through educational programs and inspiring them to be resilient leaders who create positive change in their communities.

Humble Beginnings
Edithe Rose grew up in the Nduta refugee camp in Tanzania. When her family moved to the United States in 2007, she quickly realized that the educational system was vastly different. She attended both public and private schools, benefiting from a strong support system that included tutoring, financial assistance, homework help, school supplies, and more. In 2022, when Edithe returned to Burundi for the first time since 2007, she was heartbroken to see children who should have been in first grade and beyond, instead selling fruits and vegetables by the roadside. She soon learned that many students drop out due to a lack of uniforms, notebooks, and other essential supplies needed for academic success. Inspired by her own experience and the positive impact of those who supported her education, Edithe founded Dufashanye, which means “Let’s Help Each Other.”
